2026 Discraft‘s Supreme Flight Open - MPO R1B9 Recap

The back nine at Olympus picked up right where the front left off – sloppy, wet, and about to get a whole lot darker. The feature card of Ezra Robinson, Paul McBeth, Anthony Barela, and Calvin Heimburg still had nine holes to play as daylight was already fading. By the end, they’d be throwing in near-total darkness and fog so thick the commentators compared it to an 80s sci-fi movie.

Hole 10 | Par 3 | 370 ft | Tunnel shot, new pin position

A treacherous par 3 down a tunnel with trees everywhere. The pin moved 10-15 feet to the right from last year, adding rollaways to an already diabolical green. The wet tee pads were collecting water and making it nearly impossible to get good footing. Barela got a lucky break – his disc went right and somehow threaded through everything. Incredible body control from AB on the slippery pad, one of the most athletic players on tour. McBeth gave the birdie a run but couldn’t convert. Ezra took his first bogey of the round after an early tree kick left him in a guaranteed bogey position – he made a solid save to avoid worse. Calvin used the hillside to his advantage and cleaned up the par. Only 19 of 96 players managed a birdie on this hole.

Hole 11 | Par 4 | 546 ft | Redesigned, much harder in 2026

This hole got a massive overhaul and went from one of the easiest on the course to averaging 0.41 over par – a huge change. Same landing zone off the tee, but now you need to get around a corner uphill and throw something overstable to flex right. Barela dialed up a gorgeous tee shot. McBeth took an interesting line that made his second shot a very tall task, but scrambled brilliantly to save par. Calvin threw too high and offline, finding trouble. Ezra’s struggles deepened – without a reliable forehand in the 350-foot range, the second shot in these conditions was brutal. What started as one of the best drives you can throw ended in a double bogey after a horrible second shot and the wheels coming off. A tough break for the defending champ.

Hole 12 | Par 3 | 530 ft | Downhill ~90 ft, big forehand hole

A huge par 3 that plays downhill roughly 90 feet. The big forehand is the play if you’ve got it. The backhand turnover also works, but you need a flippy fairway driver with enough room to send it out and turn it into the ground. Stay away from going too straight – there’s OB ahead. McBeth’s forehand was absolutely dialed, landing about 50 feet from the pin but the birdie putt slid by. Calvin waved his disc right but somehow threaded the gap and stuck it close, converting a beautiful birdie. Ezra’s struggles continued in devastating fashion – his disc found OB so quickly that the graphic went up earlier than anyone had ever seen. An automatic bogey. The reigning champion was in freefall.

Hole 13 | Par 3 | 452 ft | New hole, three guardian trees

A brand new hole – a straight shot guarded by three trees. The play is to push the left side with a little hyzer and bend it right. You can play the flex line, but it’s a smaller gap on the right side. By now the light was fading fast and the conditions were deteriorating. Wet towels, soaked everything, and footing you couldn’t trust. The commentators joked about Bigfoot sightings on the property – and it’s apparently not a joke, as actual Bigfoot hunters have come out to film here after strange noises at night. McBeth showed the YouTube video with the sounds. Back to disc golf: McBeth navigated the guardians cleanly for par. Barela couldn’t save it and took a double bogey, his chances at a good round dwindling. Calvin also dropped a stroke with a bogey. The pars on this hole felt extremely good.

Hole 14 | Par 4 | Uphill, must clear the crest

You cannot throw this one low – you’ve got to get it over the hill or you’re done early. Ezra continued heading the wrong direction, now five over par since the back nine began. Calvin couldn’t save the par either, taking another bogey. Barela had a great drive but struggled on the approach. McBeth continued to fight off everything that was destroying the rest of the card – another clean par. With everyone else going over par, McBeth’s steady play was quietly pulling away.

Hole 15 | Par 5 | 962 ft | Straight downhill bomber

The last hole they’d complete before the darkness took over. A 962-foot par 5 straight down a massive hill. Throw something mid-height with a little understability, get it to drift right, and send it as far as possible. You can go distance driver, fairway driver – they’ve even seen putters off the tee. McBeth got a favorable kick off his drive and was in great position. Calvin threw a beautiful shot deep into the fairway, then uncorked a jaw-dropping approach that had eagle written all over it – there’s something about playing in the dark that lets you just feel it rather than think. But the eagle putt slid by, and then the birdie wouldn’t drop either, an early-morning mistake (they’d come back to finish Saturday morning at 7:30 AM). Barela caught an early tree kick but still had a look from deep. Ezra fought hard but continued to struggle.

Hole 16 | Par 4 | Tricky tee shot, anhyzer required

A tricky par 4 requiring a big anhyzer with a really overstable driver to fit the early section, landing in the opening before throwing a sidearm up to the green. At this point the fog had rolled in thick and the cameras showed more than the players could actually see. Calvin found OB and dropped another stroke. Barela also took a bogey. McBeth stayed clean – just another day at the office for Paul, who was fighting off conditions that had everyone else going backwards.

Hole 17 | Par 4 | Obtainable birdie, but treacherous OB

A very obtainable birdie on paper – hit the gap with a putter, stall it to the small landing zone. But there’s an OB pond and OB deep that comes up quick, followed by a low-ceiling tunnel. Tied for the hardest hole on the course with Hole 4 at 0.54 over par, with only 11 birdies all day. McBeth ripped a great drive and converted the birdie – his seventh of the round and a huge stroke heading into 18. Ezra and Barela both found trouble, each taking bogeys. Calvin managed a clean par. During the break, a look at the leaderboard showed Casey White on an absolute heater at 10-under, with Adam Hammes (“Double A Hams”) also torching the course.

Hole 18 | Par 4 | 680 ft | The iconic cliff-to-cliff finisher

A hole unlike any other in disc golf. You launch off the top of a cliff, descend into a valley, and then climb right back up to another cliff. A dream finishing hole and a par 4 for good reason. Shoutout to Dan, Avi, and the local crew who built incredible new tee pads, signage, and benches – they’ve done a ton of work and deserve every bit of praise. McBeth needed the birdie to lock up a spot on the lead card, and with his low PDGA number (lower than Simon Lizotte’s), 7-under would guarantee it. He delivered his eighth birdie of the round. Ezra ended on a high note with a birdie of his own. Barela also birdied to finish at even par. Calvin took par to finish at 4-over for the round.

Back 9 Summary

McBeth was the story of the day – eight birdies and just one bogey (hole 4) in absolutely brutal conditions on his home course. A bogey-free back nine while everyone else crumbled around him. Ezra Robinson’s incredible front-nine scrambling evaporated into a five-over back nine as the conditions and the lack of a reliable power forehand caught up with him. Calvin and AB both struggled to stay afloat as darkness, fog, and rain battered the field.

At the top of the leaderboard, Casey White finished with a remarkable 10-under despite taking a bogey on 18. Adam Hammes birdied 18 to join him at 10-under. Simon Lizotte and McBeth sit at 7-under, with several others in the mix.
