LEESBURG, Va. – Three disc golfers stepped to the tee at Clark’s Run at Furnace Mountain Camp in Leesburg, Virginia on Friday, May 22nd, and only one of them walked away with their head high. That man? Keith. And he made it look, if not easy, at least deliberate.

Keith fired, flopped, an 80 (+17) to claim the top spot in the MA4 field at the Hawaiian Shirt Day C-Tier — a flex-start event where even the format refuses to take itself too seriously. Fernando came in second at 82 (+19), and Robert rounded out the three-person card at 87 (+24).

“I usually play in MA50, but I thought I could take down MA4 in this tournament,” Keith said afterward. “I was right.”

The course — the Original layout at Clark’s Run — stretched 6,985 feet across 18 holes with a par of 63. That’s a lot of real estate for things to go sideways, and go sideways they did.

How It Played Out

Hole 8, the monster — a par 5 stretching 659 feet — was the round’s defining moment. While Fernando carded a double-bogey 7 and Robert suffered through an 8, Keith walked away with a clean par. That five-throw exchange on a single hole may have been the round’s biggest swing.

Hole 13 handed Fernando his worst score of the day: an 8 on a 639-foot par 4 that looked like a horror show from the tee. That’s the kind of hole that haunts you on the drive home.

Robert’s round unraveled quietly across the back nine. A triple bogey on hole 12 — a 512-foot par 4 — effectively sealed his fate in third.

Keith wasn’t spotless. He doubled the hole 1 with a 6, and sprinkled double bogeys throughout. But he was consistent where it counted: pars on holes 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, and 17 added up to a steady, grinding win.

Player Profiles

Keith finished the day at +17 with a player rating of 846 — 20 points over his rating. He didn’t overpower the course, but he managed it. His par on hole 8 while both of his competitors imploded there says everything you need to know about how he won.

Fernando showed flashes of brilliance — he made par or better on 10 of 18 holes, including birdies on holes 2 and 10. But hole 13 cost him dearly.

Robert carries a 791 rating and showed some fight — he birdied hole 18 to close the round on a high note, while both Keith and Fernando each threw a 4. Small victories. His round was undermined by a brutal stretch through holes 8, 12, and 15, where he dropped a combined 7 strokes over par.
